Backwater valve
A one-way valve on a building's sewer connection that prevents municipal sewage from flowing back into the property during a surcharge event.
backflow valvesewer backup valve
Required in new construction in Calgary but not universal in older homes. Requires periodic inspection and cleaning to function.
Its presence is often a condition or a discount factor for sewer backup insurance coverage.
