Compulsory certification trade
In Alberta, a trade in which work may only be performed by a certified journeyperson or a registered apprentice under appropriate supervision.
Plumbing, gasfitting, electrical and refrigeration are among them. This is why a property-care attendant can change a furnace filter but cannot replace a thermostat with wiring behind it, reset a gas appliance or change a tap.
Work in these trades is routed to appropriately licensed contractors.
