Polybutylene supply piping — grey flexible plastic pipe installed widely in Canadian homes from roughly 1985 to 1997, known for failing at fittings without warning.

Usually visible as grey flexible pipe in the mechanical room or basement ceiling, frequently stamped "PB2110".
Degradation is internal and progressive, so a system can behave normally right up until a failure. Chlorinated municipal water is understood to contribute.
Insurers treat it differently — some decline, some require replacement, some apply restrictions. Worth confirming before an extended vacancy.
