Heat trace
Electric heating cable installed along pipes, gutters or roof edges to prevent freezing.
heat tapeheating cable
Common on vulnerable water lines in unheated spaces and at roof edges prone to ice damming.
Depends entirely on power being on and the cable functioning. On a vacant property a failed heat trace or a tripped breaker removes the protection with no indication that anything has changed.
