A deployment produces one of the longest and most contact-restricted absences on this list. Six to twelve months is typical, communications may be limited or irregular, and the member has very little capacity to deal with anything domestic while away.
Where the whole family relocates for a posting, the property is fully vacant. Where a partner remains, it is not — but that partner is frequently managing everything alone, which is its own argument for practical help rather than monitoring.
Relocation and posting timelines are also set by the institution rather than the member, and can change. Arrangements that assume a fixed end date tend not to survive contact with an actual posting.
