Travelling for treatment — whether elsewhere in Canada or abroad — produces an absence with a firm start and a soft end. Recovery takes as long as it takes, complications extend stays, and a three-week plan becomes three months without anybody choosing it.
The owner is also, reasonably, not thinking about the house. Attention is on the procedure, the recovery and the family. Anything requiring their input should have been settled beforehand.
Frequently a family member travels too, which removes the local fallback at the same time.
