Some trips are deliberately unreachable. A trek, an expedition, a remote fly-in, weeks in the backcountry. The point of the trip is the disconnection, and it removes the owner from every decision loop for its duration.
This is the most extreme version of the cruise problem, and it needs the same answer taken further. Everything that could require a decision must be decided in writing before departure, and somebody local has to hold real authority.
Trip lengths are also less certain than they look. Weather, logistics and route changes push return dates, and there may be no way to tell anyone.
